BACKGROUND
Having fenced in high school, seeing this picture of two fencers captioned "Why must beekeepers fight?" piqued my interest greatly. Why do beekeepers have to fight? I thought, and the beginnings of Beekeeper's Bout were set in motion.
When I started creating concepts for a world revolving around bees in the summer of 2018, I had sort of imagined it as a MMORPG (likely because I was playing Guild Wars 2 at the time) where each player was a magical beekeeper. I had planned out all of the different classes and jobs and specializations, armor and weapons, items, and NPCs, but it was not long before I realized that creating a game of that scope would be impossible to do alone.
I kept the idea in the back of my mind once the school year started, and by the time college applications were done, I was back to the beekeepers. This time, I did flesh out the world a little more, but I also wanted a narrative to tie everything together. I want my characters to live in the world I was building, and hopefully I can work towards that goal as my characters set off on their own journeys.
